As Meghalaya continues to grapple with a high burden of cancer cases, the State Cancer Society of Meghalaya has intensified its campaign on cancer awareness, prevention and early detection, with a special focus on taking information and screening services closer to communities.
An awareness programme was held at the lawmusiang Seinraj Parking Lot in Jowai on Saturday, where Health and Family Welfare Minister Wailadmiki Shylla urged people to make use of the screening facilities available across the state and stressed that early diagnosis remains the most effective weapon against cancer.
The programme was attended by Laskein BDO Dr F Shadap, District Medical and Health Officer Dr P Shylla, State Cancer Society Member Secretary Dr Anisha Mawlong, oncologist Dr J C A Lamin of Shillong Medical College and Civil Hospital, Rangbah Shnong Ajoy K Lywait, doctors, healthcare workers and community representatives.
Addressing the gathering, Shylla said the government has been working across departments to promote healthier lifestyles and spread awareness about cancer prevention among families and communities.
